Naumann Residence (project)

Phoenix, Arizona - 1998

This resource-efficient design utilizes insulated block, engineered lumber, a metal roof and passive strategies. The building form takes advantage of self-shading and creates sideyard/backyard enclosures on a narrow site. A rammed earth hearth-mass rises up to continuous clerestory windows that bring light deep into the middle of the house form. Materials that are either left in their natural state, or are mildly altered, reduce initial cost, maintenance, and environmental impact.
